Malaspina expedition papers, 1789-1795.

Records pertaining to the expedition of 1789-1793, including cover letters, instructions and financial statements, correspondence documenting administration and equipping of the expeditions, shipments of scientific instruments and natural history specimens, failure to find the Northwest Passage, inland exploration of Ecuador, Argentina, and Mexico, mapping of Patagonian Coast, and other activities of the expedition. Of special interest are descriptions of conditions among the California missions. Many documents were sent to or from the office of the Spanish naval minister Antonio Valdés y Bazǹ. Some items are contemporary copies.
